Senior software developer with over 17 years of experience (since 2008), specializing in Go backend development. I love solving hard problems and building things — from production microservices to side projects like emulators and interpreters. My engineering philosophy is minimalism; simple, boring technology, clean code, and systems that are easy to understand and maintain. After years in the TypeScript/JavaScript ecosystem I moved to Go precisely for that simplicity, performance, and reliability. I thrive in collaborative teams and fast-moving environments.

Projects

Cube Snake (August 2026 - Present)

https://snake.leinonen.ninja

Snake played on the surface of a cube, in the browser, as a single index.html in vanilla JavaScript and WebGL with no dependencies. Each face is a grid and the snake wraps onto the neighbouring face at the edges; a quaternion camera rolls over the edge continuously with the snake and peeks toward nearby faces. Scene is rendered to a framebuffer and post-processed in GLSL (bloom, chromatic aberration, scanlines, warp starfield). SID-style chiptune and sound effects are synthesized live with WebAudio (PWM pulse waves, 50 Hz arpeggios, filter sweeps) and react to gameplay. Combo scoring, timed food, obstacles, collapsing faces and power-ups. Deployed to S3 + CloudFront.

JavaScript, WebGL, GLSL, WebAudio, AWS

Draken (August 2026 - Present)

https://draken.leinonen.ninja

Vertical-scrolling bullet-hell shmup in the browser, written in vanilla JavaScript on WebGL2 with no dependencies. You fly a Saab 35 Draken defending the Swedish archipelago; the coastline is a procedurally generated heightfield rendered in shaders, and all sprites are drawn to a texture atlas with the Canvas API at startup. Instanced sprite batching, bloom and chromatic-aberration post-processing, procedural WebAudio sound, and a bullet-pattern system for enemies and bosses. Deployed to S3 + CloudFront.

JavaScript, WebGL2, GLSL, WebAudio, AWS

Factorio Dashboard (2026 - 2026)

https://github.com/leinonen/factorio-dashboard

Real-time monitoring of Factorio factories in Grafana. A Lua mod exports factory statistics as JSON every two seconds, a Go exporter converts them into Prometheus metrics, and a Docker Compose stack with Prometheus and Grafana renders a live dashboard. Exposes 50+ metrics covering item/fluid production and consumption rates, pollution, evolution, electric networks, logistic bots, and research progress.

Go, Lua, Prometheus, Grafana, Docker

golisp-language (May 2026 - Present)

https://github.com/leinonen/golisp-language

A general-purpose, Clojure-style Lisp hosted on Go — the way Clojure is hosted on the JVM. Where my earlier Go-Lisp project was an interpreter built to explore language design, this is a full compiled language; .glsp files transpile to Go source and build into single static binaries with no runtime. Ships a typed syntax, its own standard library, a CLI with build/run/watch/test/doc commands, a formatter, and an LSP server for editor support.

Go, Lisp, Compiler Design, LSP

Ask (April 2026 - Present)

https://github.com/leinonen/ask

CLI for querying LLMs from the terminal, written in Go. Supports Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, and Google (Gemini) by talking to each provider's REST API directly over net/http — no vendor SDKs, single external dependency. Features shell command generation, code-only output mode, piped input, and a first-run config wizard.

Go, Anthropic API, OpenAI API, Gemini API

Grunts (2026 - 2026)

https://grunts.leinonen.ninja

Clone of the classic Worms artillery game, written in JavaScript. Real-time destructible terrain, a full weapon arsenal, ninja rope, and keyboard/mouse controls — rendered on a layered canvas setup with WebGL post-processing effects for the game world. Playable in the browser, with 2-player online multiplayer via deterministic lockstep over a serverless WebSocket relay.

JavaScript, Canvas, WebGL, AWS

Assembly Emulator (November 2025 - April 2026)

https://github.com/leinonen/assembly-emulator

x86 assembly emulator written in Go with VGA Mode 13h graphics support, enabling retro demoscene-style programming. Features authentic x86 real mode with segment-based memory addressing, 1MB addressable memory, and 320×200 resolution with 256-color palette. Supports a subset of the x86 instruction set including data movement, arithmetic, logic, and control flow operations. A tribute to 1990s demoscene programming with modern Go implementation.

HyperColorAI (November 2024 - July 2025)

https://hypercolorai.com/

Built serverless AI art gallery showcasing my work created with DALL-E (OpenAI) and Imagen 3 (Google). The site is powered by Go and leverages AWS Lambda to process newly uploaded images in an S3 bucket, applying watermarks, resizing, and generating HTML dynamically. For a seamless user experience, HTMX enables dynamic content loading, including an infinite scroll feature for effortless browsing. Remix functionality to let visitors create remixes of existing images using OpenAI APIs. The entire infrastructure is provisioned using Terraform, ensuring a scalable and automated deployment.

Artifact (2018 - 2018)

https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=79329

Collaborated with a friend (Stalvik) to create a WebGL demoscene production, released at the Compusphere 2018 demo party in Gothenburg. Developed using JavaScript, WebGL (GLSL), and WebAudio, our demo transformed code into an artistic audiovisual experience. Released under the group alias Bitbendaz—because in the demoscene, every coder belongs to a crew. Dedicated countless hours to perfecting it, pushing creative and technical boundaries.
